- My
subscription is about to run out and I want to continue
using Health Probe. What do I do?
Call HealthCare Data, Inc., 765-342-9947 during normal
business hours and purchase a license or renew to obtain the access
code. You must have Health Probe running and be
near the computer.

- Can
I use a PDA?
Yes and No. We feel that if you are comfortable
with only doing a small part of the full medical records
that Health Probe can do, then you may be able to use a
PDA to write scripts or enter simple orders. The
PDA, by itself, currently does not have enough firepower
to do all that Health Probe does. The PDA can show
only small portions of the medical records and needs to
be re-synched or reloaded.
We feel that the PDA is only a small, limited first step
and not the total solution to a rich medical record..

- How
do I get patient demographics from my accounting system
into Health Probe without re-entry?
Health
Probe includes an import utility. From the Finder
Screen, click File and then click Import. The file
layout is explained there.

- How
much does Health Probe cost?
Health
Probe is the most cost effective fully and truly
integrated electronic medical
records (EMR), practice management solution available to
our knowledge.
Health Probe may be subscribed to for just dollars a day
per user depending on the number of users. Health
Probe can also be site-licensed or licensed for any
number of users. Contact HealthCare Data, Inc,
765-342-9947, for a quote. Support is free for the
first 90 days after purchasing a license. After
that time hourly support fees apply.

- Can
I run Health Probe over the Internet?
We
have real concerns about storing any important
information such as medical records on the Internet.
One hacker remarked, "The only computer that is
safe is one 6 feet underground, shut off and encased in
concrete.....maybe."
Is the Internet secure enough? Your
patients' medical records are among the most valuable
and private information to which you must have access.
Should such information be exposed?
Can your patients' charts and accounting data be viewed
on a web server without your or your patients'
knowledge?
How are you liable for unauthorized access, lost or
corrupted data? There are some real HIPAA
concerns, though purveyors of this model will assure
you differently.
Can someone 3000 miles away who maintains or controls
your database deny you access to your patient or
accounting data?
Is the Internet reliable and fast enough?
Will you be able to see your patients' charts when you
must or will the Internet be busy, slow or down
completely?
Consider the loss of the Internet to the thousands in the
Gulf Coast after the hurricanes of 2005. You can easily
see that it is better to retain your medical records
locally at your site than to be tethered to the single
point of failure a connection to the Internet presents and
requires.
At this time, we think it wiser to retain your primary
database under your local control. Having your
data near you is not only the safest but fastest means
of accessing it. The Internet could be used for a
secondary or backup database if you must have this
access and understand the possible downside.
Assuming these questions are resolved, indeed, Health
Probe can be run over the Internet. A connection
of 256 kb makes the connection seem like Health Probe is
running locally on a network. We have run it on
speeds of 24 kb with some slower response.
Pictures take longer to view on the Internet so local
storage is almost always faster.

- Can
I just use the Script Writing functions of Health Probe?
Yes. The Health Probe Script Writer is an ideal
first step towards computerization. You may start
by having your staff make the entries, refills and
updates into Health Probe at check-out from your Health
Probe pre-printed SOAP note of patient current medicines
and diagnoses.
When ready, you may upgrade to the full medical records
Health Probe and enable it by just a phone call.
You already have the full featured software with only
the Script Writer functions activated. The Health
Probe Script Writer is attractively priced and has great
advantage with the easy upgrade to full medical records.

- Does
Health Probe interface with billing systems?
Health Probe has its own full accounting and billing system,
in addition to comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR,
CPR, EHR). Health Probe has
published a interface HL7 specification that allows
connecting to accounting and exporting charges and
demographics.

- Does
Health Probe interface with laboratory?
Health Probe has the HL7 LabReader interface available
for Quest, CPL, Enzo and others. The results
can be displayed in the spreadsheet of the Flow section
and shown as the composite result under the Health Probe
order. The order result will be marked as Received
so it can be reviewed.

- How
is backup performed?
We recommend backup nightly with the backup being
rotated each day and stored off-site. Your
electronic medical records (EMR) are valuable, so we
make it easy to keep them safe. Simply run Backup
from the Utilities menu on the Server, or set up your computer to
automatically run a backup as often as you like! We
recommend backing up four separate ways and testing your
backups regularly.

- How
is training or support given?
The
CD contains tutorial videos that may be all the training
required. The manual also gives detailed
information. On-site training and installation may
be arranged for per diem charges and travel expenses. Usually
only 2 days of on-site training is required.

- How
many users can I have?
This depends on the network equipment, networking
software and level of use. A typical small server
for a small office may do fine for 25 users. More
users may require better equipment and networking
software. Depending on your network and
equipment, you may run hundreds or thousands of users.

- How
do we start using Health Probe?
Start
with the Health Probe Tour. Get acquainted
with all the things Health Probe can do. Schedule
a Health Probe Internet Demonstration.
Motivate yourself and your staff. You have
the wisdom, vision, courage, determination and
conviction to computerize. Your staff will take
their clues to the future success from you.
The best Health Probe implementations are those offices
that have people who can work together as a team.
Everyone must be on board because this is a big step and
changes will be made. The paper chart will
be legacy. Choose a person who knows Windows(r)
and train them. On-site training by our experts is very
helpful in seeing and learning all that Health Probe can
do.
We have been surprised at how very quickly new workers
seem to learn. The older employees may have a
harder time adjusting to the paperless world because
they already know the old way well and naturally resist
change. We have found that open-minded older
employees who know nothing about computers or software
have been able to learn Health Probe and become experts.
It is an open-minded issue not an age issue.
Set a start date. Import your patients'
demographics from an existing accounting program. Before
seeing the patient have your staff enter the
patient's problem lists and medicine lists and
significant history. Then start...just do it!
It may slow you down at first just like learning to use
the stethoscope did the first time. In time
however you will find speed and efficiency. You
will never want to go back.

- Can
you use voice recognition with Health Probe?
Yes you can and we have developed Health Probe to work
with voice recognition. We have been watching this
developing technology for some time. While a
number of excellent vendors are making headway in this
field, we think there is more accuracy and improvement
needed. Contextual understanding is ahead,
possibly 2-5 years. We will keep an eye on it.
Be confident that Health Probe Professional is ready.
